Our group came from all over the US to show God’s love by using their tech and other skills.

In October 2017, the Global Mission IT team was invited to Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya to installed security cameras, upgrade infrastructure and help around campus.  Twenty three amazing volunteers stepped forward to make it happen.

We stayed at the Africa Nazarene University main campus in Ongata Rongai where 4000 students are being discipled, mentored and trained by the Faculty and Staff of ANU.

Their motto is: “What begins here transforms the world.”  After spending time on campus and visiting with Students, Faculty and Staff, we believe they are truly living out their motto.  We saw God at work!

Rob North (ANU Advancement), George Athoye (ANU IT Director), Moses Karani (ANU Infrastructure Specialist) and several other staff were our incredibly gracious hosts.

The main goal of our project was to work along side the ANU IT Department staff to install campus wide security cameras.  The Kenyan Education Department (CUE) has required that all Universities increase their security.  Our team had the privilege of helping ANU meet this requirement.

Our team included many non-tech people.  As we looked at the skillsets of our team, we decided to divide our group into several sub-teams, who had these duties:  1) painting the main campus library, 2) working with local church members, 3) installing security cameras and the infrastructure necessary to connect them to the network, 4) deploying a server solution for camera monitoring, and 5) working with the maintenance leadership on engineering solutions to several key issues.

In addition to their work each day, each team member also worked hard to develop relationships with students, faculty and staff.  God worked through those relationships in powerful ways.

A couple highlights include:

  • One member has a background in coaching.  He was able to visit with the ANU basketball team during their practices and speak to them about leadership.
  • Two team members worked with the local church to provide sewing machine lessons for several local women.  They are now able to use their skills to help supplement their family income.

Through the team’s hard work, the security cameras are all mounted and running at the ANU Main campus.

The ANU Downtown Campus still needs to be completed.  We will be going back to Kenya in March of 2018 to accomplish this project.  If you are interested in Praying, Giving or Going with Global Mission IT, please contact us through this link: https://globalnaz.org/how2getinvolved/
